Did you know that there’s a ceramics studio in the lower level of West Penn Recreation Center? Pat Dobies has been providing a ceramics class at West Penn for more than twenty-years, for the last ten years, she’s been doing it on a volunteer basis.
The studio has kilns and many molds for slip-casting, but there are no pottery wheels. Materials would be paid for by the students.
Pat has a passion to share her years of ceramic experience and welcomes everyone who would like to attend. The classes are currently quite small and they would love to have more participants. The classes meet on Tuesdays from 5-8pm on the lower level of West Penn Center (use the Senior Center entrance).
Remember–you don’t have to be a Polish Hill resident to attend classes or use the center; Citiparks recreation centers are open to all.
If Tuesday evenings don’t work for you but you’re still interested in doing ceramics at West Penn, there is the possibility of starting a new class. Marcia Scott, the director of West Penn, has told us that someone has a group and a teacher, additional ceramic classes could be scheduled on Mondays, Thursdays, or Fridays. If you are interested in starting another class, get in touch with Marcia at 412.622.7353 for information on how to get that set up.
