Blanket and winter clothing drive

Allegheny County’s 10th Annual Blanket & Winter Clothing Drive to benefit the Jubilee Association will be held Wednesday, November 16, Thursday, November 17 and Friday, November 18, 2011. Blankets and warm clothing will be collected in the lobby of the Allegheny County Office Building at 542 Forbes Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day.

The Jubilee Association began as a soup kitchen in Downtown Pittsburgh more than 25 years ago. Today, it continues to serve hot meals year-round and also provides a health clinic, job center, adult education program, child care center and food bank.  Jubilee has a food pantry outpost at 3131 Brereton Street in Polish Hill that is open on Wedesdays.

“Unfortunately, we continue to see the need for our services grow every day,” said Jubilee Association Executive Director Sister Liguori Rossner. “The good news is that we have remarkable, caring people looking out for those who need help. Over the last four years, we have received van loads of blankets and clothing thanks to the generosity of County employees and other downtown workers.”

Last year’s blanket and winter clothing drive was the largest collection since the County began the effort for the Jubilee Association, and Onorato is challenging everyone to beat last year’s totals.

Do you have items to donate but can’t make it downtown on the 16, 17 or 18?  Bring your  donations to the PHCA office.  We’ll be taking a load of donations downtown and would be happy to include your items as well.  The PHCA is open 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and you can drop by items any time during office hours.
