Polish Hill resident Christina Worsing debuted her Give and Take project during the arts festival this summer. The booth was a lively success, and Christina has been moving ahead on doing Give and Take as an event elsewhere.
Now, the Give-and-Take Clothing Social comes to Braddock’s UnSmoke Systems Artspace on Saturday, October 8th and Sunday, October 9th, from 1pm – 6pm each day. This 2-day, pop-up clothing social will feature:
• A clothing exchange where everything costs $1. Clothing comes from you, the public. All sizes. All genders. All seasons.
• A drop-off for your clothing donations: Looking to clear out your closet or make a contribution to your community? Your clothes make the exchange possible. So bring your clean, gently worn stuff to the event. For a list of what we’re able to accept, please check out the donation page.
• A mending circle to help you fix or alter clothes you bring from home or score at the exchange. We’ll have comfy couches, sewing machines, and most importantly, mentors to help you do your thing.
• Free wood-fired pizza baked in the Braddock community pizza oven on Saturday, October 8th from 3-5pm.
Are you interested in contributing your skills? Give-and-Take needs a) sewing mentors b) builders, organizers and fashionistas to help bring our store to life and c) energetic souls to help throughout the weekend. Check here for more details about the our volunteer opportunities.
Give-and-Take is a community-based project that hosts local socials to exchange and repurpose clothing. We focus on the social side of reuse by creating small-scale, informal, face-to-face activities and events. In addition to finding ways to keep clothing in play and out of the landfill, Give-and-Take is exploring how community-driven, collaborative services take hold when the primary goal is centered on supporting meaningful social interactions and experiences.
