The Pittsburgh Polish Council will hold its annual Polish Day at Kennywood Park on August 4 —
For 78 years, Polish American families in the tri-state area have made Polish Day at Kennywood Park an integral part of their summer fun. Over the years, they came by trolley, by bus, by car. They toted picnic baskets and swim gear – yes, Kennywood once housed a huge public swimming pool and a great miniature golf course! They rode the Pippin, the Little Dipper, the Enterprise. They sampled the cuisine in the Polish Kitchen and packed the benches in front of the stage to get a great seat for the annual Mass, speeches, and festivities. They purchased a program book – always $1.00 – to review the day later. Although many rides and people are no longer with us, the tradition of Polish Day at Kennywood is alive and well.
