The Renovation & Preservation Weekend is a new event co-produced by the History Center, the Community Design Center of Pittsburgh, and the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation.

This weekend-long event will focus on regional resources for home improvement, renovation, restoration, and historic home preservation.  The event will include a speaker’s stage, exhibitor displays, demonstrations, hands-on activities for children (Creating a City Mural and Building with Blocks, Making Bridges, and Restoring a House), walking tour of Pittsburgh, and professional design consultations.

Program times:  Saturday Sept. 25 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday Sept. 26 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Click here for a description of the event’s exhibitors.

Sunday’s event will include “Great Places and Views within the History Center’s Neighborhood” – a guided walking tour of Pittsburgh and the Strip District from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., conducted by Louise Sturgess, Executive Director of PH&LF. The tour will focus on the area within walking distance of the History Center and will highlight the Pennsylvanian, Grant Street Buildings, Allegheny Riverfront, Cultural District, and Strip District. We will all first meet outside and in front of the History Center along Smallman Street and near the Three Rivers Stadium goal post.

The program is free with History Center admission.  For more information on the event, look here or call Bob Stakeley at 412-454-6359.
