Would you like to learn how to can? Penn State is presenting a Preserving Food at Home Workshop for both experienced and beginning canners. Today’s canning methods are backed by scientific research, which helps to insure that you have a safe product to eat. Attend this workshop and learn about the following areas of home food preservation:
-Basic principles of canning and freezing
-Boiling water bath and pressure canner methods and appropriate methods to use for various food items
-Current recommended methods for canning fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, and more
-What you need to get started
The workshop is on Tuesday August 25, 2009 from 1:00pm to 3:30pm at Buffalo Inn, South Park location. Registration forms are available by calling the Penn State Cooperative Extension office at 412-473-2540. The cost of the workshop will be $25 and includes a copy of the Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving: 100th Anniversary. Penn State “Let’s Preserve” fact sheets will also be available. For those owning pressure canners, dial gauge testing will take place after class.
