Pittsburgh Brewing Co. approved for historic designation by HRC

With all of the brouhaha over the weather, it is easy to overlook other issues. In June 2009, Pittsburgh Brewing moved their production of Iron City Beer to Latrobe Pa and sold their property. The buildings are within stone’s throw of Polish Hill and are quite an impressive installation.

The new owners decided to demolish some of the buildings on the property, but thanks to the efforts of community members, the first steps towards historic designation have been taken —

The Historic Review Commission on Wednesday designated the property historic. City Council must approve the designation, which would limit future changes to the exterior of the more than 20 buildings on 10 acres near the intersection of 34th Street and Liberty Avenue. Read the Tribune Review article
