The community garden on Wiggins street was started in 1979 by a few octegenarians and Terry Doloughty (now the PHCA president, then a skinny 13-year old). They pulled out cars, boulders, and a lot trash, to create this space. Some of the people currently holding plots have been gardening here for decades. The demand for garden plots is such that the PHCA is now working to find space for more community gardens.
The Wiggins garden is in full abundance now. If you’re out for a walk, stroll down and take a look. Perhaps it will inspire you to help start a new community garden elsewhere!
