Panel proposed to control spending of stimulus funds

An article in today’s Post-Gazette reports that Councilman William Peduto called yesterday for a commission that would review proposed spending to ensure that the city is “taking care of existing infrastructure first.”  Peduto sayd that federal stimulus investments to the city of Pittsburgh should get “an extra set of eyes”.  If stimulus money is instead spent on new projects like parking garages and amphitheaters, he warned, “this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to try to fix some long-standing problems may pass us by.”

We can all see the validity of his concern; the crumbling proof is all around us.  Roads and bridges before amphitheaters!
