Pittsburgh was recently designated as Preserve America Community, a program sponsored by the federal government to preserve and promote the understanding of America’s cultural heritage.

There will be a formal designation ceremony on April 17. Interior Department Deputy Secretary Lynn Scarlett will be on hand for the presentation.

You can read more about the Preserve America Communities program here. We first became aware of the program through an article on the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, which you can read here.

  1. My name is Christina Smith and I am a journalism student at Duquesne University. I am currently working on a story on Polish Hill regarding things that aren’t there anymore. I was wondering if anyone had any personal stories of place they used to go/see that are no longer there and if they would please email me. If you don’t mind answering a few questions and offering some narrations of Polish Hill, it would be a great help to a young college student. My email is smithc2071@duq.edu. Thank you for your time.
