One of our neighbors just visited the Heinz History Center in the Strip District and reports that one of their long term exhibitions, on the 4th floor, features a large blow-up of the above photo of Paulowna Street in 1928. The exhibit also includes artifacts and items from Pittsburgh’s ethnic communities, including a lot of Polish items. A lot of us probably haven’t been to the History Center yet , but knowing that Polish Hill and the Polish heritage in Pittsburgh has a presence there might give us a reason to make a visit.
The Heinz History Center is located at 1212 Smallman Street. Phone 412.454.6000.
This photo, and other historic photos of Polish Hill (and Pittsburgh, and Western PA) can be viewed from the Heinz Center’s online photo archives page.
