Halloween is right around the corner

Halloween Safety

Halloween will be celebrated from 5:00pm to 8:00pm in the city of Pittsburgh on Friday, October 31, 2008.  Halloween my be a fun holiday for kids, but for parents trick-or-treat time can be a little tricky.  Here are a few tips to help keep trick-or-treaters safe.  Make sure your child’s costume is short to prevent tripping.  Try using make-up instead of a mask.  Masks can be hot and uncomfortable, and more importantly, they can obstruct a child’s vision.  Trick-or treaters always should be in groups so they aren’t a tempting target for real-life goblins.  Parents should accompany young children.  Make sure older kids trick-or treat with friends.  Together, map out a safe route so parents know where they will be.  Tell them to stop only at familiar homes where the outside lights are on.   If it’s dark, make sure someone has a flashlight.

Remember that Halloween is for children.  Please drive slow and be extra careful.  Let’s make this a fun, memorable, and safe holiday for everyone.
