The Allegheny County Parks Department is still accepting lifeguard applications for the 2010 season. County lifeguards must be 16 years of age or older and must possess all necessary certifications prior to May 31, including lifeguard, first aid, and adult, child and infant CPR training.
Lifeguard applicants are also required to pass an aquatics test to be administered at 9:00 a.m. on Sat., May 8, at Oliver High School located at 2323 Brighton Road in Pittsburgh.
Prior to taking the test, all applicants must present a completed employment application with a minimum of four references, as well as a physical examination form completed by a physician. No aquatics tests will be given without a doctor’s certification on a physical examination form.
Lifeguards will be hired to work at the wave pools in Boyce, South and Settler’s Cabin parks, as well as the North Park swimming facility. Returning lifeguards in good standing and applicants 18 years of age and older will be given preference.
The Parks Department will pay lifeguards on the following scale: $8.25 per hour for junior lifeguards; $9.25 per hour for first-year lifeguards; and $9.50 per hour for senior lifeguards.
The opening day for the 2010 swimming season is June 5, weather and conditions permitting.
